James Arthur has opened up about the effect that the huge fallout from his homophobia scandal had on him - even claiming he's had a "depressive nature" since the incident.
2012 X Factor winner Arthur, who fell out of favour following homophobic slurs he made in a recording of a diss track he made aimed at MC Micky Worthless in November, told The Sun on Sunday the criticism he's recieved has put his self esteem at an all time low.
"All my confidence has disappeared because the whole nation thinks I'm a homophobe who looks like a monster. I couldn't speak to anyone for a week. It was awful," he revealed. "My little sister was being bullied in school and I was receiving constant death threats."
The 'Impossible' singer, who made a half-hearted apology regarding the incident during his performance on an episode of this year's X Factor, now seems to show a hint of remorse. "I stayed in bed for days on end," he continued. "Any time I tried to get up, I couldn't. I felt deep, deep shame about my mistakes since winning the show. I kept thinking, 'What the f**k have I done?"
He continued: "But since becoming famous, I've had a depressive nature. It's a curse. Maybe I suffer for my art."
Oops, we knew that humble demeanour couldn't last. Apology ruined, Arthur.
There's one person who's stuck up for Arthur, however - X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger, announcing she was there for her former protegee. "In the end I know that the cream will always rise to the top," she said of the 'You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You' singer calling rapper Micky Worthless a "f**king queer" and comparing him to the Taliban.
