It looks like the most boring outcome possible is becoming a reality as X Factor winner Sam Bailey's cover of Demi Lovato's 'Skyscraper' is heading for the Christmas top spot.
Bailey, who won the dreariest year of the show yet, is pipping the competition with the Offical Charts Company reporting that 45,000 copies of the single had been sold up until yesterday (Monday 16 December). The X Factor victory is outselling the No.2 competitor Pharell Williams and his single 'Happy' at a ratio of two to one.
"As we’ve seen time and time again, this is certainly not the week of the year to become complacent," commented Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company. "With a host of acts snapping at Sam’s heels, including Pharrell, Leona, and the growing AC/DC campaign, anything could still happen between now and Sunday’s final whistle."

Meanwhile, another X Factor alumni in the form of Leona Lewis is tailing in third place with 'One More Sleep'. Additionally this years "alternative" Christmas number one, AC/DC's 'Highway to Hell' originally released in 1979 is coming in at No.4 after a sudden sales flash.
Other contendors in the running include 90s rave legends Altern8 who have entered the competition at No.30, while Susan Boyle's 'Come O Ye Faithful' is thankfully getting it's SYCO endorsed arse whooped at No.86.
It's all to play for however, as the cut off point for sales is on Saturday (December 21), with the full countdown to be announced by Jameela Jamil and Scott Mills on the Official Chart Show on Sunday (December 22). Our hopes rest on Altern8 or AC/DC although it looks rather unlikely.
