Canadian electro star Grimes has taken a big step up the musical ladder as it has been announced she has signed to Jay Z's Roc Nation imprint.
Grimes, real name Claire Bouchier, is the latest in a line of young dark synth pop musicians being signed by American rappers, following producer Evian Christ recently being signed by Kanye West. Grimes was one of the break out artists of 2012 with her third album Visions released on 4AD.
The exact details of the signing remain unspecified however as the Roc Nation moniker provides various different services including management, publishing and record release. However Roc Nation confirmed the signing by posting the Bouchier directed video for 'Genesis', while Grimes herself posted the revelation on Tumblr, showing a photo of herself holding up the Roc Nation diamond symbol with the caption "I've joined the X-Men".
Excited to welcome @grimezsz to the Roc Nation family! Watch the Grimes-directed video for her song "Genesis" here: http://t.co/xpbZsmbDFb

"Grimes is the multimedia project of Canadian artist Claire Boucher," write Roc Nation on their artist page. "She is best known for her work as a producer, singer and songwriter, although 'Grimes' also encompasses her work as a director, painter and writer. In 2013 Grimes was named the Webby's artist of the year and was also awarded a Juno for Electronic album of the year for her third record, Visions. She is currently recording her fourth album in British Columbia."
