Valerie June has released the video for new single 'Pushin' Against a Stone', which is the first taken from her debut album of the same name. Watch the video first on Gigwise.

The video for the raw and rootsy soul track contains iconic American imagery, such as shots of the American flag, what appears to be a 1960s baptism ceremony, small children in ridiculous dresses, and an uncomfortable staring match between the camera and a snake.

As for the song, it's an understated but vibrant and self-assured number, paying tribute to June's gospel upbringing and blend of rock and roll influences.

June has actually already self-released three albums, but Pushin' Against A Stone is her official debut as a signed artist. The American singer-songwriter supported Jake Bugg on tour before appearing at Latitude and End of the Road festival this summer.

'Pushin' Against a Stone' is out now. See the video for the title track below, first.
