Bastille's Dan Smith has responded to recent Pendulum and Chase & Status's criticisms of the band's cover of Corona's 'Rhythm Of The Night', asking "What's the point in being an arsehole to other people?"

Earlier this month, Pendulum's Rob Swire tweeted saying "Bastille, you are not good enough to cover 'Rhythm of the Night'. Please stick to 90's songs within your talent range, like Mambo No. 5." Chase & Status then retweeted the attack, adding "Fully agree."

Speaking to Gigwise, Smith responded to the tweets saying: "It's an interesting tack to take... Everyone who's in a band knows how much hard work goes into everything, and to publicly slag people off is a personal choice. It's not something I would ever do."

He added "What's the point in being an arsehole to other people? But obviously, everyone has their own opinion and not everyone's going to like everything. Good on him for saying whatever the fuck he thinks."

Bastille's 'Of the Night', which is a mash-up of 'The Rhythm of the Night' by Corona and Snap's 'Rhythm is a Dancer', reached No.2 in the UK singles chart.

Bastille will be performing in South Africa and America in the new year, before returning to tour the UK in February. The band perform tonight (20 December, 2013) at a sold out Bush Hall in London for Samsung, with tickets selling out months ago.
