Recently freed Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina have said that they still want to oust Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

It appears that the two year jail term the pair endured after the 'Punk Prayer' protest, has done nothing to dim the fires of protest. Speaking yesterday (December 27), the band spoke publicly for the first time since their release, making a statement that while inside they had become even more passionate about their politics, wishing to help alleviate the suffering of those currently incarcerated in Russian jails and remove the current Prime Minister.

Moving onto Vladimir Putin, Tolokonnikova said: "We still want to get rid of him, I would very much like to invite Mikhail Borisovich [Khodorkovsky] to play this role."

Mikhail Khodorkovsky, is a recently defeated politician who promises a more liberal approach to government than Putin's extremely rigid and backwards approach to social affairs.

"Our attitude to Putin hasn't changed at all. The message of our action in the cathedral is still valid," continued Tolokonnikova. "By Putin, we mean the bureaucratic machine he has built. He said wild things about Pussy Riot, but it was evident that he actually believes in what he says. I don't want to live in his nightmare."

They also spoke of how they felt about their release, saying: "It was not an act of humanism. The authorities have simply backed off under pressure coming from inside Russia and from the west. It is not Putin and his parliament we are grateful to, but people who supported us. It was like a miracle."
