A US town will celebrate 'Nirvana Day' on 10 April 2014, due to the fact that iconic frontman Kurt Cobain once spent a short amount of time there.
The town of Hoquiam, where Cobain is believed to have visited in his teens, will mark the occasion on the day Nirvana are inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next year. It is uncertain how well Cobain knew the town, but he spent much of his younger years in the nearby town of Aberdeen, four miles from Hoquiam.
"They bring great honour, I think as I say, to our entire community. And I think that it's good Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a little while," said Jack Durney, the mayor of Hoquiam in an interview with local radio.
"I think it's good to honour our sons and their great accomplishments."
Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame alongside Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens, Hall & Oates and Linda Ronstadt. The ceremony, which will take place on 10 April 2014, will also honour Beatles manager Brian Epstein and Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Odlham who will be presented with the non performers award.
