The London flat rented by Jimi Hendrix in the late 1960s is to be restored and opened as a permanent museum, it has been revealed.
The rooms at 23 Brook Street, once described by Hendrix as 'the only home I ever had', have been a place of pilgrimage for fans and music lovers for decades.
Now, The Guardian reports that the Heritage Lottery Fund will shortly be announcing £1.2million grant to restore the rooms to how they looked in 1968 - back when Hendrix paid just £30 a week to share the flat with his girlfriend, Kathy Etchingham. It is reported that the museum will display exhibits to Hendrix' life, work and legacy.

Notably, two blue plaques adorn the walls outside the 18th-century listed building, as Hendrix was not the only music legend to live in the property. While Hendrix lived at No 23 Brook Street, the brilliant composer George Frideric Handel at No 25 centuries before. The two properties now linked as the Handel House Museum.
"The Handel House Museum is one of the most precious and evocative places in London," said Wesley Kerr, chair of the London committee of the Heritage Lottery Fund. "To visit the beautifully restored home where one of history's greatest composers lived, and invented some of the finest music ever written, is already pure joy."
Kerr added: "It will make available to visitors the neighbouring flat where Jimi Hendrix, another extraordinary musical émigré from a more recent era, found inspiration and happiness, transcending musical boundaries in the heyday of rock and roll."
