The Las Vegas police boss who helped Guns N' Roses star DJ Ashba propose to his girlfriend above the city in a helicopter has retired.
It is reported that Captain David O'Leary, who helped the guitarist to propose by arranging a flight on an official helicopter, has retired rather than accepting a demotion for violating official police department policy.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the 25-year-old O'Leary retired last month, while his colleague Ray Horsley, who piloted the helicopter, is to be transferred out of the Air Support Detail later this month and will no longer be allowed to fly for them.
This follows an internal police investigation began into the bizarre helicopter stunt back in August, 2013. The GNR guitarist took Nathalia Henao on a ride-along in a Las Vegas police helicopter, which then landed on police property, where he got down on one knee and popped the question.
"An internal affairs investigation has been initiated to determine if any department policies or regulations were violated in granting this ride-along," said Bill Cassell, a spokesman for the Las Vegas police department.
Following the proposal, Ashba took to Twitter to thank the police for their assistance, writing: "That was the most incredible day of our life!! Special thx to the Las Vegas Police Dept. for the most amazing helicopter private tour over Vegas! We landed in a field at Police headquarters were I had a table set up covered in roses n a bottle of the bubble stuff."
Guns N' Roses are said to be working on a new album, which is hoped will be released later this year.
