David Bowie's Next Day has been revealed as the best selling record of 2013 by independent record stores.

The Official Record Store Chart, which has named Bowie as its No.1, was started last year as part of Record Store Day and measures the sales from 100 different UK retailers. A full list of 20 has been compilated that reads very differently to the standard chart round up lists currently going around - which are largely dominated by US stars such as Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce.

The Next Day pulled out just in front of Arctic Monkeys and Daft Punk to claim the top spot. Other notable entries in the top ten include Boards of Canada, Queens of the Stone Age, Jake Bugg, The National and Vampire Weekend.

The full list reads as follows:

1. David Bowie – 'The Next Day'
2. Arctic Monkeys - 'AM'
3. Daft Punk – 'Random Access Memories'
4. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – 'Push The Sky Away'
5. Queens of the Stone Age – '... Like Clockwork'
6. The National – 'Trouble Will Find Me'
7. Boards Of Canada – 'Tomorrow's Harvest'
8. Mumford and Sons – 'Babel'
9. Jake Bugg – 'Shangri La'
10. Vampire Weekend – 'Modern Vampires of the City'
