More about: Manic Street Preachers
Manic Street Preachers have spoken out about their upcoming new album Futurology, describing it as the 'bedfellow' to their seminal 1994 album The Holy Bible.
Speaking in the latest issue of Q Magazine, bassist and lyricist Nicky Wire says that the album is penned for a May 2014 release, and current working titles include 'Europa Geht Durch Mich', 'Europe (Dreaming A City)' and 'View From Stow Hill'. The band's 12th LP was recorded in Berlin's Hansa studios (where David Bowie recorded "Heroes"), where they worked with Alex Silva - who also collaborated with the band on The Holy Bible.
Describing the album's relationship to 2013's Rewind The Film, Wire said: "Rewind The Film was a very internalised record. It's about facing truths. Futurology is dark and nasty but it's also a celebration of the sense of motion, of travel."
Wire went on to describe Futurology as "The Holy Bible's bedfellow", adding "but it's got an electronic stomp as well. You can hear Journal For Plague Lovers' 'Marlon JD' in there, (Andrew) Weatherall's remix of 'Peeled Apples' too. And there's some vicious guitars that could be off Send Away The Tigers."
Summing up the overall sound of the album, Wire concluded: "It's post. It's punk. It's disco. It's rock."
