Pitbull and Ke$ha have scored the first No.1 single of 2014 and knocked Pharrell from the top spot, with their collaboration 'Timber'.

The former NERD frontman, and Daft Punk and Robin Thicke collaborator, spent just one week at the top of the UK charts after taking the place from 2013 X Factor winner Sam Bailey one week ago. Pitbull and Ke$ha sold an impressive 139,000 copies of their single, in what is traditionally a quiet week for music sales following the Christmas period.

The new chart topper will come as good news for 'Tik Tok' singer Ke$ha, who this week checked into a rehab facility to seek treatment for an eating disorder.

Pharrell slips to No.2 with 'Happy' and Avicii's current single 'Hey Brother' remains at No.3, while US singer Jason Derulo also holds firm at No.4. Ellie Goulding is at No.5 with her single, 'How Long Will I Love You'.

Other new entries in the Top 40 singles come from Fuse ODG, who scores a new hit at No.14 with single 'Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad)', while Matrix & Futurebound enter at No.18 with single 'Control'.

Meanwhile on the album chart, Ellie Goulding's Halcyon climbs to No.1, hitting the top spot some 14 months after it was first released. Gary Barlow, Beyonce, Robbie Williams and John Newman complete the Top Five.
