It looks likely U2 will headline Coachella in the future, as both the band and the festival are interested in making it happen.

As The Desert Sun reports, U2 frontman Bono was speaking backstage at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala this weekend when he revealed that he attended Coachella as a punter last year and was very much interested at headlining the event in the future.

Coincidentally, Coachella Paul Tollett also told The Desert Sun that there "ain’t no crime in asking him about Coachella."

With mutual interest from both parties, it seems pretty likely that Bono and co will top the bill. Probably not this Spring, but certainly in the future.

U2 are set to release their new album this year on Island Records. The LP will be their first since 2009's No Line On the Horizon, and it's strongly rumoured they will officially announce details of the record during the SuperBowl's ad breaks in February. It is rumoured for release in April 2014.

Coachella 2014 will take place across two weekends from April 11-13 and April 18-20 in Indio, California. The line-up is believed to be announced this week, but acts rumoured to be appearing include Arcade Fire, Outkast, Neutral Milk Hotel, HAIM, Pixies, and CHVRCHES.
