Singer Adele has become the first artist to sell 3 million digital copies of an album with 2011's 21.

The news from Rolling Stone magazine (and confirmed by a representative from Nielson Soundscan) comes as no real surprise as the record has already smashed a multitude of records. These include reaching diamond status in 92 weeks after selling over 10 million copies, becoming ironically the 21st record to sell over that amount. 21 also topped the Billboard end of year charts both in 2011 and 2012.

Adele has been rather quiet in the last year with the birth of her son, however rumours are that she will be returning to music this year. "I’ve just been singing my baby nursery rhymes, so I don’t really know what’s cool and what's not," she said after her Grammy performance. "I'm definitely going to visit with [producer] Paul Epworth and talk about doing that again."
