Dave Rowntree has joined XFM for a new weekly show, starting tonight (9 January, 2014).

The drummer of the iconic Britpop band will be playing songs from his own personal collection every Thursday night between 9 and 10pm, and promises to tell tales from his music career as part of one of the most celebrated British bands of modern times.

Speaking of his new role as a radio host, Rowntree says: "I'm incredibly excited at the prospect of having my own show on Xfm. The station is known for its quality music and comedy, and for gambling its future on untried, untrusted and usually unwashed presenters.

"I'm genuinely humbled to be part of that tradition."

However, while Rowntree seems to consider himself 'untried' and 'untrusted', XFM's managing editor, Chris Baughen has more confidence in the 'Parklife' star.

"Dave has pretty much seen, done and won everything when it comes to music," he says. "In addition to this, he’s a natural born presenter who I’m sure will become a firm favourite with the Xfm audience by the end of his first link."

Rowntree's first XFM show will be broadcast at 9pm on 9 January, 2014.
