After unearthing such stars as Leanne Mitchell and Andrea Begley in previous years, The Voice UK returned to TV screens to impressive ratings, after changing the judging line-up on this year's show.
The third series of the gimmick-heavy TV show premiered on BBC1 on Sautrday, 11 January 2014 to viewing figures of 8.4million, an improvement on 2013's opening show, which pulled 6.2million viewers. This year, the show has begun earlier than last to avoid competing with ITV's Britain's Got Talent, which proved more popular in 2013. The show also beat Tom Daley diving show Splash in the ratings, which trailed with an audience of 3.7million in the same Saturday night time slot.
New judges Kylie Minogue and Ricky Wilson have been credited with attracting new viewers, having been drafted in to replace Jessie J and frontman of The Script, Danny O'Donoghue.
Wilson has previously admitted that his reasons for joining the joining panel is neither to uncover new talent or to spin around in the show's sort-of iconic chairs, but to sell more Kaiser Chiefs records.
"I love my band and I want our new record to get noticed," he told the NME ahead of the show's launch. "I know that everyone is going, 'He thinks he's going to sell more records and more tickets.' And that is why I'm doing it. I'm not a fucking idiot."
