U2 managed to play their first show in 3 years under the radar on Saturday night (January 11), performing at actor Sean Penn's Help Haiti benefit in Beverly Hills.

The rockers appeared unannounced at the event, which was held at the Montage Hotel, and reportedly played hits including 'Vertigo', 'Desire' and 'I Will Follow'. Bono and guitarist The Edge also performed a cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' with Haitian singer Anaelle Jean-Pierre.

U2 are gearing up to release their much-anticipated thirteenth album, which will reportedly be released this spring. It's hotly rumoured the band will announce details of the record, which is produced by Danger Mouse, during the ad break of the SuperBowl on February 2.

The band recently aired their first single in three years, 'Ordinary Love', which is taken from the Nelson Mandela biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
