Beady Eye have spoken out about what it means to be replacing former Britpop rivals Blur at Australia and New Zealand's Big Day Out Festival.
Last year it was announced that Blur had pulled out of their headlining slot at the festival in, blaming the disorganisation of the organisers, before Big Day Out announced they had replaced them with Beady Eye, The Hives, and Deftones. Fans have also been offered a full refund if the three replacement acts aren't their cup of tea.
Now, when asked about replacing Oasis' former sparring partners at the event, Beady Eye drummer Chris Sharrock told Faster Louder about the band's reaction.
"It was more like 'Oh wow. That's funny'," he said. "The irony of it. It's no big deal though, really. That was all a hundred years ago, wasn't it? We're just glad to be out and going somewhere. Especially Australia."
He continued: "We didn't think we were doing anything in January. This opportunity came in at the last minute. We've always wanted to play Big Day Out. I’ve never played it before."
Big Day Out, which will run in six cities, begins in Auckland, New Zealand on 17 January before visiting Carrara, Flemington, Sydney, Adelaide and Claremont. For more information visit Gigwise gig tickets.
