Kasabian have a new album due later in 2014,are heavily tipped to headline this year's Glastonbury and have revealed the unlikely influences and sounds of new track, 'Ezz Ehh'.
The band's fifth studio album is due for release later this year, and Serge Pizzorno and Tom Meighan have revealed how the new track was partly inspired by the UK horsemeat scandal - and was very nearly named after the frozen lasagna drama.
"It's more a conversation that me and Tom might have at five or six in the morning," says Pizzorno in an interview with NME, discussing the lyrics of 'Ezz Ehh' - which include "Horsemeat in the burgers, people commit murders, everyone's on bugle, we're being watched by Google."
"Ridiculous rants when you think you're making the most amazing points, and the next morning you're like... what? I was gonna call it 'Horsemeat' but I thought it was a bit ridiculous. But it's just a bit of a spit, really."
"There have been so many nights in hotel rooms when me and Tom will stay up all night talking and it's about that."
Kasabian's as-yet-untitled fifth album is due for release later in 2014
Discussing the sound of the track, frontman Meighan added: "It's a comic. It's cartoonish. It's punk. We've never done anything like it. It's trashy. It's dirty. It's Leicester."
Kasabian have been touted as a headliner for the Sunday night of Glastonbury 2014, but neither the festival or the band have confirmed the booking.
