Ed Sheeran has spoken, very briefly indeed, about missing out on an Oscar nomination, after this year's shortlist was revealed this week.

The singer/songwriter was included in the long-list for his track 'I See Fire' from The Hobbit sequel, The Desolation Of Smaug, but failed to make the final five and pick up an Academy Award nomination. He took to Twitter to say simply: 'Schnubbed' after the nominees were announced.

However, he shouldn't feel too bad about missing out on a nomination, on the strength of the artists who did make the nominations shortlist.

Pharrell's current UK No.1 hit 'Happy', taken from animated adventure Despicable Me 2 picks up a Best Original Song nomination alongside Karen O for 'The Moon Song', taken from Spike Jonze' Her, and U2's 'Ordinary Love', taken from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Also nominated are Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel for 'Alone Yet Not Alone' from the movie of the same name and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for 'Let It Go' from Frozen.

Nominated in the Best Original Score category are John Williams for The Book Thief soundtrack, Steven Price for Gravity, William Butler and Owen Pallett for Her, Alexandre Desplat for Philomena and Thomas Newman for Saving Mr. Banks.

30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto also picks up a nomination for Best Actor In A Supporting role for Dallas Buyers Club.
