Irish rock giants U2 have been announced as the first musical guests on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show.
Famous American comedian Fallon will be taking over the Tonight Show on February 17 and it looks like he is aiming to make an impression by booking U2 for a performance that is rumoured to see them unveil new material. Show booker Jonathon Cohen confirmed the appearance of the band via Twitter last night (January 19), expressing his excitement at having the band feature on the show.

U2 haven't released a new album since No Line On The Horizon (2009), but are expected to release a new album with April of this year. It's also confirmed that the title of the LP and a new song will be unveiled during a Superbowl commercial, implying heavily that they will be debuting new material on Fallon.

U2 have were most recently nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars, for 'Ordinary Love', composed for the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedomn. "We are humbled and honored that 'Ordinary Love' has been nominated for an Oscar," said the band. "It was a privilege to be asked to write a song for this extraordinary film, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, and to help tell this extraordinary love story."
"We have been working for this great man since we were teenagers and for our song to be recognized in this way by the Academy is beyond our wildest teenage dreams."
