GLAAD's president Sarah Kate Ellis has spoken out about the Grammy Awards mass wedding stunt, praising it for celebrating "the love and commitment of gay couples today."
The organisation, which acts as a media watchdog for the LGBT community, had nothing but kind words for the award ceremony and for Macklemore + Ryan Lewis. Alongside Queen Latifah and Madonna the duo made history by wedding 33 same-sex and opposite-sex couples live on air.
"When such a critically acclaimed and popular rap artist puts marriage equality center stage at one of the biggest events of the year, it is the latest in a long line of signs that our nation not only accepts, but celebrates the love and commitment of gay couples today," Ellis told the Hollywood Reporter. "Macklemore and Ryan Lewis aren't only talented musicians, but are setting the bar high for our allies around the country today."

After the cremonies took place, a THR reporter overheard Paul McCartney saying to Ringo Starr: "Let's all renew our vows." He then went on to shake the hands of each couple as they walked past.
After the show, backstage Macklemore stated: "It's a message of quality, tolerance, compassion, to end homophobia, bigotry and hatred which has been an institution here in America, loving who you want to love. I don't think a song like 'Same Love' would be embraced years ago. It's a testament to where we're headed in this country."
