The 2014 Grammy Awards have been hailed as a big success, raking in the second highest ratings in over 20 years.

For the event, a total of 28.5 million people tuned in to watch Beyonce, Jay Z, Daft Punk and the rest of the music industry performing mash-ups and collectively patting each other on the back. This beats last year's ratings of 28.38 million and is the second highest that the show has grossed in its 21 year history.

The broadcast, which began back in 1993, only surpassed yesterdays figures back in 2012 when the broadcast took place one day after the death of Whitney Houston. A total of 39.91 million viewers tuned in that year to watch tributes to the late star from the music industry.

Daft Punk, Macklemore and Lorde all led the list of winners the 2014 Grammy Awards from last night. The phenomenal show at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles was opened by Jay Z and Beyonce, before The Beatles, Lorde and more took to the stage.
