Justin Bieber has been charged with assault after an alleged attack on a limosine driver in December 2013.
The singer was charged after reportedly hitting a driver in the back of the head several times during a night out with friends on 30 December last year. The troubled singer handed himself into police in Toronto, with a scrum of media and screaming fans waiting outside the police station where he was questioned.
The incident is believed to have taken place in the early hours of 30 December 2013, when Bieber and five others were picked up from a nightclub. The attack happened while the group were being driven to a nearby hotel. Bieber will appear in court in Toronto to face the charges on 10 March 2014.
"The driver stopped the limousine, exited the vehicle and called police," said Toronto police in a statement. "The man who struck him left the scene before police arrived."
Bieber's Californian attorney, Howard Weitzman claims that Bieber is innocent of all claims, saying in a statement: "The Toronto Police Service requested that Justin Bieber appear in Toronto today to face an allegation of assault relating to an incident on December 29, 2013. We anticipate that this matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States."
Bieber was recently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in an incident in Miami.
