Arctic Monkeys have been confirmed as the second headliner at this year's Reading & Leeds festival, in what will be the Sheffield band's only England and Wales festival headline slot of 2014.
The AM superstars join US punk-pop superstars Blink 182 at the top of the line-up at this summer's event, and organisers have confirmed that this will be an exclusive England and Wales show. They also headline T In The Park in Scotland this year, and will play a variety of other dates across Europe and the US.
Also added to the 2014 Reading & Leeds line-up are Courteeners, The 1975, You Me At Six, SBTRKT, Warpaint, Netsky, Annie Mac, Royal Blood, Hozier, Architects, Issues, Pusha T and Krept & Konan.
Arctic Monkeys' drummer Matt Helders previously told NME about the band's affection for Reading & Leeds festival, telling the magazine: "We’ve got a lot of history with the festival. It’s the first festival I ever went to – we all went together as kids, with Nick as well. We were 15 or 16 and it was a big deal going to a festival like that on your own."
Matt Healy of The 1975 named last year's R&L performances as his 2013 highlight
Matt Healy of The 1975 previously named the band's 2013 performance at Reading & Leeds as his personal highlight of 2013, in the year which saw the band rise from unknowns, to one of the biggest new names on the UK music scene.
"You know what, it was Reading and Leeds," Healy told Gigwise. "That was a fucking homecoming. We had been on tour around the world, we'd seen our band grow and grow and that was our peak. It was one week before the album came out, and you couldn't get near the tent."
Reading and Leeds festivals take place on 22 - 24 August 2014. Tickets for both events are on sale now. For more information, visit Gigwise Gig Tickets.
