Arcade Fire's Win Butler teamed up with Pearl Jam once again at Australia's Big Day Out Festval - but rather than breaking a fan's nose, they just covered 'Rockin' In The Free World' by Neil Young instead. Watch the performance below.

After previously inviting the likes of Sleater-Kinney and St Vincent on stage to cover the Neil Young classic, grunge icons Pearl Jam asked Wn Butler from fellow headliners Arcade Fire to perform the track with them to mark the end of the Big Day Out tour in Perth.

Last month, a fan  claimed that he broke his nose during a game of basketball with members of Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam. New Zealander Sherif Hassan told Aussie radio station Triple J that he was starstruck when he was invited to shoot some hoops with Win Butler and Pearl Jam bassist  Jeff Ament over the weekend, while the bands were in town for the Auckland leg of the Big Day Out tour.

It was at that point however, that Hassan realised just how full-on Ament's playing style was.

"He's aggressive, I'll tell you that much," joked Sherif. "He broke my nose. It was actually the last play of the game - the one time I decided to play proper defence. All I heard was Win going off about how the rules are rubbish down here, and throwing balls around and chucking a bit of a hissy fit."

He continued: "It was worth it. [Ament] got us all tickets to the Auckland BDO and hooked us up with backstage passes. I got to meet Lorde, Major Lazer and Mac Miller - Lorde was just chilling backstage, it was weird seeing her in person. I got a photo, it was awesome. We got to the front of stage for Pearl Jam, and [Pearl Jam front man] Eddie Vedder gave me a shout out."

Arcade Fire will be returning to the UK and Ireland next year for a string of live headline shows close to their Glastonbury headlining slot. Dates are below.
