Bands that missed the tip lists: 10 fresh new artists for 2014

Where did January go? Not just that, but February is halfway over and it looks like 2014 is getting away from us. Also, it means we've forgotten a lot of those bands that were being tipped for things just a few months ago. But that's OK, we have a new wave of artists make their way onto the office stereo - and they are all totally amazing.

These are the acts that are so new they were missed of the next big thing lists of 2013, however this is sure to be a big year for all featured below. Check out the best bands who were definitely robbed when it came to being tipped for big things in 2014...

The Kite String Tangle

Hailing from Australia, The Kite String Tangle is the work of producer Danny Harley, with experimentation being the name of the game. It sounds unlike anything out there at the moment, fusing unique electro-pop production with incredibly smooth vocals. Sonically it is one hell of a step forward and proof that Australia really is where it's at for fresh sounding new music.

The Mast

What set The Mast apart is that the quality of the material is so far ahead of the current game and has set the bar incredibly high so early in the year. Sublime genre defying gold.

Years & Years

French label Kitsuné have a remarkable ability when it comes to sniffing out new bands set for big things, and have preriously pushed the likes of Two Door Cinema Club and La Roux. Years & Years feature on their latest compilation with 'Real' being a real stand out. It's a haunting bittersweet track undercut with fluctuating bass and impeccable instrumentation.

IYES

There's not much out there from these guys but the buzz surrounding them is absolutley huge. There's an ambition behind them that comes across brilliantly with a sound that uses two vocalists, multiple instruments and progressive songwriting. It leaves them transcending all comparisons to other bands.

Broods

New Zealanders Broods have arrived totally out of leftfield to truly shake things up with 'Never Gonna Change', an incredible debut. It's that rare kind of track that sends tingles down the back of your spine. It's melodic, intense and it's as fresh as they come.

Coasts

The new track from Coasts, 'Rush of Blood to the Head', sounds exactly like the title - it's dizzying and it's euphoric. The band specialise in feelgood indie music that totally bypasses the cheesy connotations of such a tag, leading to a sound that brims with fun.

Secret Company

The band's debut track 'Saviour' is impeccably written with a stuttering drum beat leading a song with one hell of a chorus. Dare we call Secret Company the future of indie?

The Night VI

Newly signed to Parlophone, The Night VI are a rather attractive bunch with most of the band moonlighting as models. Don't let that fool you however, this is incredibly good music, laid back, melodic and introspective as they come.

Tinashe

Teaming up with Schoolboy Q on her latest release '2 On', Tinashe is already making huge waves in the world of hip and R&B. Having previously worked with Ryan Hemsworth, she acts also helps bring in the more melodic side of the trap sound for some seriously serene jams. Imagine Rihanna with much more range, ryhthm and flow.

FWDSLXSH

New track '4U' is a blinding piece of production work, marrying elements of witch-house and trap, creating a sound akin to Holy Other and oOooOo. It's a soundscape with deepness created by layer upon layer of impecable production work. Oh and it's also up to download for free in the link below.
