Pop genius Twin Shadow has teamed up with singer Samantha Urbani to cover The Smiths' iconic 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out'. Check out their version below.
Twin Shadow's version of the track is a beat-heavy, slick pop version of the 1992 original, with sparse but sublime electronic production and a spectacular blend of vocals. The video shows Twin Shadow driving through a US city late at night with female co-star 'Destinee'.
"Everything I do, I mean sincerely, but there is a little joke within this one," he tells Rookie, speaking of the cover. "In every critique of Twin Shadow, there is a dropping of Morrissey’s name, which I always thought was funny because I have never really been a huge fan of Morrissey or the Smiths. [Laughs] So it’s a nod to people calling me “the Dominican Morrissey”.
I think part of it is just that the trend in underground music the last 20 years has been to sing in a high, sort of whiny voice—coming from that MGMT, John Lennon place. I have a gloomy, low-ish voice, so I think people attach that to Morrissey.

The track was recorded as part of the 'Five Seconds' stars ongoing Under The CVRS series, George Lewis JR is currently working on a follow-up to his epic 2012 album Confess. The video also includes a question 'When is the new Twin Shadow album gonna drop' - which is exactly what we're asking ourselves. It ends with the message, 'Happy Valentine's Day'.
