One of the biggest talking points of the 2014 BRIT Awards came from an artist who didn't even appear at the show, with David Bowie's short but simple statement against Scottish independence making waves.
The legendary singer picked up the award for Best British Male at last night's (19 February 2014), beating the likes of Jake Bugg and James Blake to the title. The famously reclusive star did not attend, but instead passed a message to the BRITs audience via supermodel Kate Moss, who accepted the award on his behalf.
In an eloquent message, Moss said: "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. David has asked me to say this. I'm completely delighted to have a Brit for being the best male – but I am, aren't I, Kate? Yes. I think it's a great way to end the day.
"Thank you very, very much … and Scotland, stay with us."
Bowie made history at the awards, becoming the oldest winner of a BRIT, and took the title 30 years after previously being named Best British Male.
Other big winners on the night included Arctic Monkeys, who won Best British Band and Best British Album and New Zealand star Lorde, who picked up Best International Female.
