This year's BRIT Awards ceremony pulled the lowest viewing figures in 15 years, despite an impressive line-up of performers and guests at the annual ceremony.
An average of 4.6million people tuned in to see Arctic Monkeys win Best British Album, Beyonce stand still and sing in a nice dress and James Corden snog Nick Grimshaw. What more do the British public want?
The show was, in fact a great mix of minor controversy (David Bowie's plea against Scottish independance) and brilliant performances (Rudimental's collaboration with Bastille was pretty epic), but 2 million less people tuned in than in 2013, when audiences were thrilled by the likes of Ben Howard and Mumford & Sons.
2014 viewing figures equal the show's audience in 2006, when the ratings were said to have suffered a 'collapse' after airing pre-recorded shows. In 2007, the show switched back to live broadcasts and viewing figures improved.
However, the show proved a success on social media, with 1.4million tweets sent about the 2014 BRITS, half of those involved in the 'social' vote introduced this year to make sure One Direction won the Best British Video prize. However, the increase in social media activity may be due to the ongoing strength of social media, rather interest in the show.
