Jake Bugg has expressed his disagreement with those who describe him as the voice of a generation.
Speaking to The Independent, the singer explained that he has difficulty accepting the level of hype he's gained since rising to fame. He explained, "Somebody asked me if I was the voice of a generation recently. I was just, like... 'What? Me? Why?"
Bugg also explained that people's perception of him is not necessarily accurate, saying, "I'm shy. I don't think people get that." As to whether he is, as many seem to believe, not a particularly nice person, Bugg said, "Perhaps I'm not, but no one's perfect, are they?"

Since being catapulted into mainstream success with the release of his self-titled debut album in 2012, Bugg has received generous helpings of both praise and criticism, with comparisons to Nick Drake, Oasis and Bob Dylan attracting a fair amount of dispute.
Bugg's second album Shangri La was released last year to positive reviews, and peaked at No.3 in the UK albums chart.
