24 February, 2014: Brody Dalle kicked off the campaign for her debut solo album with an explosive and intimate show at London's Hoxton Bar & Kitchen last night. Check out our awesome and exclusive photos of the gig here.
The former Distillers and Spinerette frontwoman took to the stage just after 9.30pm and tore through a high-octane career-spanning setlist that featured cuts from her upcoming album Diploid Love, as well as classic punk tracks from her back catalogue with previous bands.
Dressed in a fluorescent orange zip-up polo, Dalle was in high spirits as she delivered an energetic performance, taking the time to crowd surf, thank London and for some reason ask a few times about why no one had given her any yellow socks. We have no idea why, we were just glad to be there.
"Are you Japanese?" squawked Dalle at one point. "I thought we were in fucking London."
Her iconic Distillers tracks sound as fresh and violent as ever, and her new solo material takes on a much more aggressive energy when performed live - 'Meet The Foetus' especially, turning the microphone to the audience who screamed back the chorus and 'h-oh-oh' outr as if they'd known it for years. The few hundred fans in attendance responded in kind, moshing throughout and repeatedly taking the time to inform Dalle of how much of 'fucking legend' she is.
