Belle & Sebastian spoke out on Scottish Independence and paid tribute to David Bowie's BRITs speech at the NME Awards in London last night (Wednesday 26 February, 2014).
Last week, Bowie famously asked Kate Moss to accept his BRIT Award for Best British Male, reading a speech which ended with the Thin White Duke urging: "Scotland, stay with us."
Now, when accepting their award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, the Scottish indie heroes have paid tribute, with guitarist Stevie Jackson joking from the Brixton Academy stage: "England stay with us - at least just for a night. And if we do leave you, let’s stay friends."
Frontman Stuart Murdoch was later asked by The Daily Record about the comment and their views on Scottish Independence, adding: "Get into the argument. Vote with your heart and not your wallet."
The band also performed a medley of their greatest hits at the ceremony, inviting some pretty animated fans on stage to dance with them.
