Colin Paterson was reporting from the Oscars for BBC Radio 4, when he suddenly spotted the iconic rocker walking past - before starting to repeatedly bellow Bono's name across the red carpet, just like Partidge in the car park.
Paterson, who normally broadcasts for BBC Radio 5 Live, later apologised adding: "I think this is undignified for Radio 4, sorry."
In an interesting twist, Paterson later spoken to Partridge star and creator Steve Coogan about the incident on the red carpet at the post-Oscars Vanity Fair party.
"If you are in this profession that's a hazard you have to deal with," said Coogan. "Live broadcasting means everyone is subject to 'Partridgeisms', and these traps everyone can fall into. So you have to watch your step."
