Tool opened up the first show of their 2014 US tour last night (4 March, 2014)( with a show at the Spokane Arena in Washington. The band have got the tour off to great start, despite a lack of any new material in the show.
Beginning with a 'VIP soundcheck' the band played three songs before the gig including 'Pushit', 'Schism' and 'Hooker With a Penis'. From there things really kicked off with the band smashing through a career-spanning 10 song setlist, including a 12-minute interlude complete with visuals.
The feeback from fans on Twitter has been overwhelmingly positive with some fans even driving down from Canada to catch the show. Attendees referred to the show as mind-bending, amazing and "a badass rock concert complete with an intermission". There were a few complaints from @dunebug81 who referred to the shows as a "cash grab" and referred to the set list as 'lousy'.
Youtube clips from the gig reveal that the show is very much the same is it has always been with Maynard silhouetted by shadow. The rest of the band are illuminated but the focus is on the huge screens at the back that broadcast a variety of psychedilic visuals and clips from Tool music videos.
