Unfortunately for Russian watchers of Sunday's Oscars ceremony, a large chunk of 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto's acceptance speech, focussing on Ukraine, was cut.
While the channel has confirmed that the segment was snipped from the speech, they have denied that they themselves chose to cut it.
"The channel aired a 90-minute international version of the Oscar ceremony, which was not to be cut and was provided by the rights holder,” the network told The Hollywood Reporter.
The section of Leto's speech that was cut read as follows: "To all the dreamers out there around the world watching this tonight, in places like the Ukraine and Venezuela, I want to say, We are here, and as you struggle to make your dreams happen, to live the impossible, we're thinking of you tonight."

Channel One originally opted out of broadcasting the ceremony live, instead choosing to focus on the crisis in Ukraine. On Monday night they aired a shortened 90 minute version of the ceremony, from which Leto's speech was cut.
This follows on an open letter to Russian media from Ukraine which urged media giants such as Channel One to report on the crisis in an unbiased manner. In a response bosses of Channel One in Russia called on Ukranian media to extend them the same courtesy.
