Glastonbury will next week enter a bid to increase the number of staff allowed on the festival site.

While this won't see an increase in the number of tickets on sale to the public, it will see a massive increase in the amount of staff tickets available. The plan is to increase the amount available from 37,500 to 63,000 over the space of ten years, which will take the capacity to 198,000 in 2014.

The bid is a way to future proof the festival and will be reviewed by Mendip Council's licensing board next month. The increase in staff will allow for more bouncers, stewards and volunteers, who year after year manage to keep the event running smoothly.

"With all the new regulations and things, the pressure is on us to have enough staff to pacify everybody,"organiser Robert Richards told eFestivals. "We are doing this to make sure we don't have to keep going back to the Council asking for additional numbers. We need to make sure that we can if need be, increase the staff capacity to meet the Festival's needs."

Part of the reasoning behind the need for more staff is the increasing amount of attendees who choose to arrive on Wednesday (the first day). Under new provisions the festival will be better equipped to deal with the increasing demand.
