Stars tweet support for International Women's Day

Today is International Women's Day. It's a day to celebrate women's political, social and economic achievements, as well as to highlight the remaining inequality that exists between men and women throughout the world. Many musicians have taken to Twitter to voice their support for the global feminist event.

Some simply wished their followers a happy day.

Others highlighted what can be done to further the cause.

Liam Payne attempted to get behind the idea, but seemed to get it a little confused with Valentine's Day.

Robin Thicke celebrated by retweeting a female fan who'd compared him to God, and thanking a woman for baking him a cake.

And others explained why International Women's Day is still important.

International Women's Day takes place on 8 March every year, and is backed by the United Nations. The UN theme for this year's IWD is "Equality for Women is Progress for All." Amen.
