Pharrell Williams has defended the controversial 2013 hit song 'Blurred Lines', which he recorded with Robin Thicke, insisting that there is "nothing objectifying" about it.
The song, and accompanying video, received widespread criticism when it was released last year, with some taking offence to the sexually agressive lyrics, as well as the video's objectification of women.
Speaking to The Guardian, Pharrell said, "It says, 'That man is not your maker.' There's nothing objectifying about that." He continued, "I would never apologise for saying, 'He's not your maker, not your God.' In fact, a woman made him. A woman made me. Regardless of who you are, you came through those golden doors."
When asked whether the lyrics were "taking the piss" out of seedy men, Pharrell responded, "No, it's not taking the piss out of anyone. It's just saying that there's blurred lines where a woman wants to do something, but she knows she shouldn't."

Pharrell acknowledged those who felt offended by the "rapey" implications of a man suggesting he knows what a woman wants better than she does. "I respected it. I'm not a woman, so I can never tell them how they feel" he insisted, despite the frequency of the line "I know you want it, I know you want it."
Pharrell, who was behind tracks such as Britney Spears' 'Slave For You' and Snoop Dogg's 'Drop It Like It's Hot', has recently achieved worldwide success with the release of his second solo album G I R L. Amongst the tracks featured on G I R L is 'Happy', which was recorded for 'Despicable Me 2' and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
