A spokesperson for U2 has confirmed that the band's new album is still on course for a 2014 release, despite rumours of delays.

Contrary to earlier reports from US website Billboard, a representative has stated that the Irish group are still on course for their original release plans, with an album slated for 2014. Reports stated that the group had delayed both their tour and album, however a spokesperson has now told the Guardian: "U2's album is planned for this year, is still on track and touring plans haven’t been confirmed yet."

The band appear to be well on the way to recording, having booked themselves in for writing sessions with Ryan Tedder and Paul Epworth. Epworth is responsible for the productions duties behind Adele and most recently Foster the People's Supermodel. Tedder on the other hand wrote Beyoncé's 'Halo' and Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love'. Danger Mouse remains the new albums principal producer.

While the swapping and changing could also spell trouble for the writing process, Bono recently spoke to Zane Lowe in which he seemed pensive about the band's future. "We were trying to figure out, 'Why would anyone want another U2 album?'" he told BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe last month. "We’ll find out if we’re irrelevant."
