Arctic Monkeys are 'a phenomenal band', says Reading Festival boss

Reading and Leeds festival boss Melvin Benn has praised Arctic Monkeys as a 'phenomenal' band, ahead of their headline slot at this summer's double event.

The Sheffield superstars will join Blink 182, Queens Of The Stone Age and Paramore at the top of the bill at this year's Reading and Leeds festivals, and Benn has revealed that they were booked due to sheer demand from fans, but would have wanted them to top the bill regardless.

"There was a huge, huge demand for Arctic Monkeys to come back," he tells the NME. "To be honest with you, we’d have had them come back even if there wasn’t a huge demand because just they’re that good. They’re a phenomenal, phenomenal band at the pinnacle of their powers right now.

"That they have a long history at the festival and sharpened their craft here only adds to the magic of them headlining."
