Metal icon and GWAR frontman David Brockie has been found dead, aged 50.
The singer, also known under stage name Oderus Urungus, is said to have been found dead by room mates in his home yesterday evening (Sunday 23 March, 2014).
TheMusic.com.au claimed that the band's management will be releasing a statement at 5pm today, before Richmond police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh said that officers were called to a residence in the 4800 block of the city's West Seminary Avenue at 6.53pm on Sunday for a report of a dead person where they found Brockie dead inside.
Police say that that they do not suspect foul play or suicide and that no note was found, but the body is now with medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Reacting to the reports of Brockie's death, bassist Mike Bishop spoke to Style Weekly and described him as "one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I’ve known".
Bishop continued: "He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art.
"His penchant for scatological humors belied a lucid wit. He was a criminally underrated lyricist and hard rock vocalist, one of the best, ever! A great front man, a great painter, writer, he was also a hell of a bass guitarist. I loved him. He was capable of great empathy and had a real sense of justice."
