Giorgio Moroder has opened up about how he felt after Daft Punk paid tribute to him on their 2013 album Random Access Memories, stating that it was both "surprising" and "emotional".
The 'Giorgio by Moroder'track is is a nine minute, biographical, disco, trip. Part spoken word, part dance track it features Moroder discussing his life, whilst it is represented musically by Daft Punk's production. Now speaking to Billboard Moroder has outlined how the track came about.
"It was a funny, funny thing," Moroder said, "they asked me if I wanted to collaborate artistically on some song and I didn't have any idea. I said "yeah let's do it", I was in Paris, they called me and said why don't you come to the studio and let's do it."

"I came to the studio and Thomas said "just talk about your life", so I spoke for about two and a half hours and they said that's it. So I said "what is it?". "Oh we cannot tell you," [they said]. Maybe they didn't know, so I thought maybe they're going to take one word and cut it and make some effect."
"Then last year in february I heard for the first time the song and I was absolutely thrilled and surprised and almost emotional because I'm telling my story."
