To mark the one-year anniversary of bassist Chi Cheng's death, Deftones have unveiled an unreleased track from the 'lost' album, Eros. Listen to 'Smile' below.
Cheng died on 13 April 2013, after being in a sustained coma following a car accident. The album that the band were working on at the time, Eros, was never released. Instead, the band recruited new bassist Sergio Vega and released 2010's critically-acclaimed Diamond Eyes.
'Smile' is the first track that fans have heard from Eros, with the band being on record as saying that they're uncertain if the rest of the record will ever be released.
Unveiling 'Smile' online, the band posted: "Chi, We miss you today and everyday. -deftones."
The track is an odyssey of crashing guitars and twisted melodies, everything that Deftones do well. Following its premiere, fans have shared the track across social network with the hashtag #OneLoveForChi - a message of support used for Cheng during his coma and tragic death.
