A former Roc A Fella producer is being questioned over a set of stolen Jay Z master recordings - and an extortion plot.
According to TMZ, Chauncey Mahan, who worked at the label from 1998 to 2002, secretly kept a selection of the recordings in storage in California, leading Roc A Fella to believe they were lost.
Mahan then allegedly told entertainment company Live Nation, who work with Jay Z on the joint venture Roc Nation, that he would auction off the recordings or sell them to the company for a $100,000 (£60,000) "storage fee".
Live Nation are reported to have paid Mahan $75,000 (£44,000) for the recordings, which are thought to be worth up to $20 million (£12 million).
Mahan was allegedly detained and questioned by police on Friday (April 18) after they travelled to the storage facility after being contacted by Jay Z. He has not yet been arrested. A judge will now decide who are the rightful owners of the tapes, which are temporarily in possession of the LAPD.
TMZ also claim Jay Z's team filed a grand larceny lawsuit (the unlawful taking of a person's personal property of a significant size) against the New York police department.
