The Libertines' Carl Barat has revealed that the band hope to be able to perform new material for their reunion show in London's Hyde Park this July.

After a week of speculation fuelled by comments made by Pete Doherty, The Libertines confirmed yesterday (25 April) that they'll be reuniting for British Summertime in Hyde Park on 5 July.

Speaking to The Independent following the announcement, Carl Barat said: "I'm seeing Pete next week and we'll get the guitars out. Hopefully we'll come up with some new songs for Hyde Park."

Barat also responded to comments made by Anthony Lorenz, chairman of the Residents' Society of Mayfair and St James's, in which he declined to support the gig because of the band's reputation for ignoring curfew times.

"I'm not worried about us coming on late," said Barat. "If people are concerned about noise they shouldn't have moved to Hyde Park. I hope we don't break the curfew but we'll see on the night."

He added, "I've always loved Hyde Park. It's nice to play in the heart of London and it's got that great heritage of shows from The Rolling Stones to Blur."

The Libertines are set to play Hyde Park on 5 July, alongside support from the likes of The Pogues, Spiritualized, Maximo Park, Wolf Alice and Swim Deep. For more information and tickets visit the Gigwise Gig Section.
