Eavis: 'Final Glastonbury headliner is one of the world's biggest-selling bands'

Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis has dropped a hint about who the final headliner for this year's festival could be, describing the Saturday bill-topper as 'one of the biggest-selling bands in the world at the moment'.

A massive wave of huge bands was revealed earlier this month, but the Saturday headliner is yet to be revealed due to 'contractual reasons'.

However, in a new interview with the Bristol Post, Eavis has dropped a large hint about who will be joining Kasabian and Arcade Fire in topping the Pyramid Stage.

"We are expecting to announce the full line-up at the beginning of May and everything is now in place," said Eavis. "We are more than happy with the calibre of the acts and the headliner on Saturday will be one of the biggest-selling bands in the world at the moment."

The word 'band' seems to rule out Prince and David Bowie, and the phrase 'at the moment' rules out the rumoured likes of Depeche Mode and Fleetwood Mac. So who could it be? Metallica? Daft Punk? We'll have to wait and see.

One thing is for sure - it definitely isn't Oasis. Elaborating on daughter Emily's dismissal of the rumour that the Gallaghers would reunite and play, Michael continued: "The Oasis thing had nothing to do with us, we hadn't even considered asking them. They have played at the festival three or four times and they are a great band. They were not that well known the first time they played here but they were a great band even then.

"I am not sure that Noel is ready to go back on the road with Oasis because he has his own band at the moment. I think if it were to happen and they did come back to Glastonbury it would probably be in four or five years time – I can't see it happening before then."

Glastonbury festival takes place at Worthy Farm in Somerset from Wednesday 25 to Sunday 29 June, 2014.
