The Honey Ants are fast making a name for themselves on the modern folk scene with their stunning tracks, which boast gorgeous dual harmonies from John Grimsey and Rebecca Hamer. You might not know it from listening to their music, however, but the duo take inspiration from the grunge scene and a love for Nirvana. Listen to their cover of 'Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle' below.
The orignal track, which first appeared on Nirvana's 1993 album In Utero was a rough and ready rock classic, driven by guitar feedback and Kurt Cobain's distinct vocals. The Honey Ants' version is entirely different - but really rather brilliant indeed.
The Honey Ants strip away much of the aggression from the track, but Cobain's lyrics retain a dark sense of melancholy, most notably on Hamer's echoing solo moments on the cover version. Listen to The Honey Ants cover 'Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle' below, first, on Gigwise.
The track will be given away on the band's Facebook page and is also the b-side to their new single, 'Lies (See You Again)'. Which is released on 5 May 2014. Click here to pre-order.
