It looks like the bookies and the rumours were right, as tabloids are reporting that Metallica will be announced the final headliner at this year's Glastonbury festival.

A huge wave of some of the biggest acts to be gracing Worthy Farm this summer was announced earlier this month - but the Saturday night headliner was not announced due to 'contractual reasons'.

Now, The Sun have stated that it will indeed, be Metallica. It is believed that the 'contractual reasons' may be down to the band being previously announced as a 'UK exclusive' for this year's Sonisphere festival.

The rumours began when drummer Lars Ulrich said that the band 'would love to play', before industry insiders soon began confirming that the metal icons would grace the Pyramid Stage.

Last week, Eavis also dropped a huge hint at the final headliner to be joining Arcade Fire and Kasabian in topping the bill, telling the Bristol Post: "'We are expecting to announce the full line-up at the beginning of May and everything is now in place. We are more than happy with the calibre of the acts and the headliner on Saturday will be one of the biggest-selling bands in the world at the moment.''

The news is likely to divide opinion. Legends as they are, Glasto has often shyed away from booking metal and hard rock acts - but then they used to say the same for hip-hop before they booked Jay Z.
