Lykke Li has discussed the darkness, emotional subject matter on her new album, I Never Learn, saying the record is an 'honest' collection.
The Swedish star discussed the writing process behind I Never Learn in a new interview with The Fader, stating that she wanted to make something that was back to basics and more honest. At the same time she told the website that there was no way she would ever be able to write happy music, because she doesn't want to "lie".
"I think for me the only way to make it is to be as honest as possible," she said. "Because if I wanted to hide and lie I'd go back to my day job. Sonically I wanted to make something more stripped back and more direct and I felt like on Wounded Rhymes I was fighting against myself y'know? So angry at myself so I wanted a lot of drums and a lot of shit around it.
"I think this is more like the aftermath or the day after and I suppose a bit more refined."

"I always feel like everyone is always taught to strive for happiness or fulfillment or the end or something, but it's very interesting to be lost too," she continues. "Tolkien says "those who wander are not lost" and it's true. For me it's not interesting, I'd rather bake a pie than write a happy song."
Meanwhile Lykke Li will be playing an in store at Rough Trade in order to celebrate the release of I Never Learn. The show will take place at the stores east London branch next Friday 9 May.
